The alliance between tradition and confort

In every apartment of chalet Djan é Glyâmo, we put confort first : pure wool blankets, polar blankets, confortable cushions, colorfull curtains, objects patiently gathered from our strolls in second-hand shops.

We tried to keep and constantly recreate this warm atmosphere for it is a pleasure to create harmonious spaces, to display our souvenirs, our rare and original objects in accurate places.

The friendship cup in Savoy... The "Grolle"

On the picture below , you can see a "Grolle". For the uninitiated, it is a multi-spouted wooden bowl. It is carved from the wood of a walnut tree, an olive tree, a ash tree or a mahogany.
It is traditionally used to make coffee. Here is one of the many recipes :

INGREDIENTS :
- 2/3 cofee ;
- 1/3 eau de vie ;
- a few drops of Génépi ;
- lemon and orange peel ;
- sugar (according to your taste).

PREPARATION :
- Pour the hot coffee into the Grolle, add lemon and orange zests with a few drops of Génépi ;
- Add sugar to taste ;
- Flambé with the eau de vie to caramelize the sugar ;
- Toss gently with a spoon and put out the flame with the lid ;
- Each guest drinks with a spout. They are inteded for this purpose.

In colloquial French, Grolle means shoe, because the original container was in fact a clog in which the mountains dweller poured coffee with alcohol.

Drink in moderation.

Hereunder on the left, a photo of the original Val d'Isère, our favourite ski resort. In the middle, a handmade sandstone pot with handles in the shape of bird's heads. On the right a nice wood turned box found in a second-hand shop in Chambéry.

Some sports souvenirs

Among those souvenirs, a pair of canadian ice skates. They were last used in Québec, on the plains of abraham ice rink in an enchanting and freezing (-35°C) landscape.
The "Val d'Isère" cap was used during the ski club trainig session on the slopes of Solaise and Bellevarde.
On the right, a pair of skis that belonged to the builder of the chalet.
